Karen Elson’s Music
Rock star/supermodel couplings are a showbiz cliché–Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall, Billy Joel and Christie Brinkley, Seal and Heidi Klum, David Bowie and Iman, Pete Doherty and Kate Moss, Rod Stewart and any number of interchangeable blondes, the list goes on. So when British supermodel Karen Elson ran off with Jack White (more…)

ALEJANDRO ESCOVEDO “Street Songs of Love”

ALEJANDRO ESCOVEDO “Street Songs of Love” lives up to the direct monosyllables of its title, then transcends them. It’s a set of 12 midtempo, clear-cut, guitar-driven songs and a closing instrumental, usually with just three or four chords, in the style that was once mainstream and is now called classic rock. All the lyrics have something to do with love, as Mr. Escovedo sings and shouts, in his thick, earthy voice, about lust, devotion, jealousy, obsession, parental affection and higher purpose. “You gotta have faith in the one you love/You gotta have faith in the mystery above,” he hollers in “Faith,” with one of his fans, Bruce Springsteen belting alongside him.

Two Stars (Out of Five)

Okay, I’m officially embarrassed.  I had read so much great stuff about Josh Turner and his latest CD, I figured I’d check it out when I saw it at the local library.  What did I have to lose – borrowing it didn’t cost a thing. (more…)

For those of you not aware of this, I have the unique fortune of having two very good friends in some influential situations.  The first person I met, then had the great fortune to re-connect with, is author, musician, promoter, and more, Billy James.  The second of these unique folks is Doug Ford of RundgrenRadio.com.

But this blog isn’t about Rundgren (I’ll wait for the cheers to subside).

Three-and-a-Half  Stars out of Five

The most casual fan of Johnny Cash is likely familiar with the iconic picture of him flashing a defiant middle finger into the camera.  (For those of you not familiar with the photo, it’s available as a t-shirt or poster on Amazon – get ‘em for the kiddies!) Think of American VI: Ain’t No Grave (more…)
